Day 4-Synod Day

On our synod day we got a chance to gather with all of our friends from across Eastern ND Synod.  We had a blast having a gigantic dance party and then singing and praising God together.  It was super fun to see Jeremy helping lead music (our kids know him from his time at Red Willow Bible Camp).

Throughout the time of praise music there was a crazy person dressed up as a gorilla dancing all over...kids were laughing when it turned out to be Bishop Terry!

Then we did some mixers and all of our crew got to meet even more new friends as we talked throught the story of the Samaritan Woman at the Well.

After that we got to hear a message from the Bishop (no longer dressed as a gorilla), and have communion together.  We each were given a rock to write on that had Jesus on one side and we wrote our names on the other.  Towards the end of our time on synod day, we went up and got a different rock to carry with us to remind us that we are never alone.  We were also invite to pray for that person in the days and weeks to come.  (Haley K, I am praying for you!!)

After synod day, we headed over to check out Community Life, and our kids had a blast on bouncy obstacle courses, playing wipe out, riding a mechanical bull and much more!  After a little bit of chill time in the hammock village area, it was off to wait in line for the Mass Gathering.

The speakers for this night were Caroline, a young woman who struggled with anorexia and talked about how God's love is what saved her and God never left her side, Rev. Aaron Fuller, a Navy Chaplain who talked with us about how we need to experience God's love through the love of others, Erin Power, a minister of word and service who told her story about being not just welcomed but also valued in the church, and how it was in her feeling valued that she decided to join.  She challenged us to be welcoming to all people, not just those who we are comfortable around, and we finished the night with Marlon Hall, a lecturing anthroplogist who shared the stories of how he and his wife struggled to have a child, and through God's grace, they were given their daughter.  Then he brought her out to meet all of us! :)

It was a great first full day of the Gathering...looking forward to seeing God at work in our next day's adventures!
